Director of Music

Andrew Scott

Andrew began his musical education in 1989 as a Chorister at Christ Church, North Shields under the tutelage of Russell Missin. In 1994 he was awarded an Organ Scholarship before being promoted to Assistant Organist and eventually, Director of Music.

On leaving school, in 1994 Andrew was apprenticed to Harrison and Harrison, Organ Builders of Durham to train as a professional Organ Builder. He moved to London in June 2000 to take up the position of London Tuner for H&H where he is responsible for the tuning and maintenance of many Parish Church organs and for the instruments in most of the main London venues, including Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral and the Royal Festival Hall.  In addition to his work in London, in April 2012 Andrew was appointed Head Voicer of H&H.  Amongst many organs in the UK, Andrew has also worked in Australia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, USA, Denmark and Sweden.

As a musician, since moving to London, Andrew spent five years as Organist and Assistant Choir Director at St Margaret’s Church, Lee, followed by four years as Assistant Director of Music and Director of the Girls’ Choir at Croydon Parish Church – now designated Croydon Minster. Andrew was appointed Director of Music at St Michael & All Angels, West Croydon in January 2012 having served as Acting Director of Music from April 2010 to December 2011.

In addition to his weekly church duties, Andrew has been Director of the Warlingham based chamber choir, Amici Coro since November 2009. Under Andrew’s direction, Amici won the 2010 choral class in the Croydon Music Festival, and have over the past 18 months sung choral services at the Cathedrals of Exeter, Hereford, Peterborough, Portsmouth, Salisbury, Westminster and Winchester.  Further details of Amici’s activities can be found by visiting: www.amicicoro.co.uk
